ICT CAN FAST TRACK NATIONS TO FIRST WORLD STATUS

Minister of Energy, Mining and Telecommunications, Clive Mullings, has said that information technology can drive production and fast track nations like Jamaica to first world development.

“The introduction of new and updated technologies increases both physical and economic productivity. Computer technologies impact all aspects of our lives and are critical to the process of development and efficiency in all productive industries and sectors of all societies,” Mr. Mullings stated, as he addressed the launch of Fujitsu’s Hosted Email Services on Wednesday, April 16 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

He noted that the National Development Plan’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Taskforce highlights strategies that are imperative to furthering the development of the sector that will establish a globally competitive ICT industry in Jamaica.

“This is the best time for an emerging economy such as ours because it is information, it is brain power that is going to propel us to first world development,” Mr. Mullings stated.

Meanwhile, the Minister noted that email is one of the most efficient means of communicating among staff and said that he was pleased with Fujitsu’s Hosted Email Services as it “takes away the hassle of server monitoring.”

Mullings further stated that “The email infrastructure that you are going to be driving is critical because it is going to mean that there will be a greater flow, greater exchange so that in very short order, we will find that we will be able to achieve our objectives with minimal effort.”

He noted that greater efficiency in the office is one area that more business managers will look forward to, with the email service being provided by Fujitsu Hosted Email Services.

“Fujitsu’s email hosting service addresses a number of challenges that persons in the business sector face. There is a growing need to maintain electronic communication with associates and partners wherever they may be,” the Minister said.

The Fujitsu’s Hosted Email Service is delivered using the Microsoft Exchange platform. It provides organizations the full functionality of the Microsoft Exchange/Outlook email without the cost and risk associated with the management and support of their own internal exchange infrastructure. This service also provides full email protection with enhanced anti-virus, enhanced anti-spam, encryption, and fully compliant email archiving.
