The Contractor-General, the Office of the Contractor-General and the National Contracts Commission (NCC) are three (3) independent Commissions of Parliament established through the Contractor-General Act of 1983 to ensure that the public sector procurement process can withstand public scrutiny. The Contractor General's Act was amended in 1999 to provide for the establishment of a National Contracts Commission.
 

It is expected that the strengthened Contractor General’s Office will ensure that there is transparency in the administration of public sector contracts in Jamaica. The NCC, which replaced the Government Contracts Committee (set up in 1963), is designed to promote greater efficiency, equity and transparency in the award and implementation of government contracts.

The Office of the Contractor General is responsible for providing the Commission and its sector committees with administrative and other resources to enable the proper performance of its functions.
